ನಾನು ಬೆಳೆಯುವಾಗ, 2000ದ ಆಸುಪಾಸಿನ ಸಮಯದ ಚಳಿಗಾಲಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅಮ್ಮ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಮಕ್ಕಿ ಕಿ ರೋಟಿ (ಜೋಳದ ರೊಟ್ಟಿ) ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಗ್ (ಗೊಜ್ಜು ಅಥವಾ ಸಾಗು) ಬಗ್ಗೆ ನನ್ನ ಅಜ್ಜಿ ಗೊಣಗಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದುದನ್ನು ಅರ್ಥ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ನನಗೆ ಅಷ್ಟು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಗುತ್ತಲೇ ಇರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ನನಗೆ, ಸಾಗ್ ಮತ್ತು ಆದರ ಜೋಡಿ ಇರುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಬೇಕಾದಷ್ಟು ಬಿಳಿ ಬೆಣ್ಣೆ ಸ್ವರ್ಗದಂತಿರುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ವಿವಿಧ ಕಾಳುಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ತರಕಾರಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಆಗಿರುವ ರುಚಿ ಬದಲಾವಣೆಗಳು ನನ್ನ ಗ್ರಹಿಕೆಗೆ ಸಿಗದ ಸಂಗತಿಗಳಾಗಿದ್ದವು, ಮತ್ತು ಇತ್ತೀಚೆಗಷ್ಟೇ ನಾನು ತಿನ್ನುವ ಆಹಾರದ ಸ್ವಾದವನ್ನು ತಿಳಿದು ಆಸ್ವಾದಿಸಲು ಕಲಿತದ್ದು. ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಚಳಿಗಾಲದ ಮಾತುಕತೆಗಳು, ಕಾಳುಗಳು ಕಲಬೆರೆಕೆಯಾಗಿವೆ ಎಂಬ ಆರೋಪದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ, , ... — ತನಿಶ್ಕಾ ವೈಶ್
